ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Canadian producer Little Snake made a name for himself in the late 2010s with a unique set of bass-heavy yet texturally complex anthems. With a seemingly endless variety of influences including grime, math rock, and digital cumbia, the producer's work breached many genres although it was typically bound by its dark aesthetic, intricate sonic structure, and attention to textural experimentation. He continued expanding his impossibly dense, complex sound with his 2021 full-length debut, A Fragmented Love Story, Written by the Infinite Helix Architect.
Born Gino Serpentini, Calgary-based producer Little Snake began making music at the age of 17, releasing experimental beats on streaming sites under his production alias. These soon caught the attention of the Renraku label, which released the young producer's debut in late 2017; Little Snake's first EP, Mental Wealth (2017), combined influences ranging from industrial to grime in a collection of forward-thinking anthems. Just over a year after starting his career, he attracted the attention of Brainfeeder head honcho Flying Lotus, and became the youngest member of the Brainfeeder family when he released his sophomore EP Enter on the producer's label. Inspired by Gaspar Noé's experimental film Enter the Void, the three-track project continued its predecessor's experimentation with texture, and added a notable dubstep influence on the explosive "HXD" and "ISTHISREAL.MP3."
After rounding out 2018 with a contribution to anniversary album Brainfeeder X and solo single "Lonely Simulation," the young producer began work on a third EP, Lost in Spirals, released in June the following year.
A V.I.P. version of "If U Don't Know" was released shortly thereafter on Renraku, before Snake set to work on his fourth project, YATDC. Described as something unable to "fit into the category of an EP, an LP, or anything in between," the producer's fourth effort marked a drastic shift in style; dropping his punchy three-minute approach in favor of long-form song structures, 2020's YATDC ventured into ambient, choral, and prog-driven directions, while retaining the sonic intricacy and churning basses that had defined his material thus far. Snake's mind-boggling debut album, A Fragmented Love Story, Written by the Infinite Helix Architect, was released in 2021, and included collaborations with Flying Lotus, Amon Tobin, Shrimpnose, and others.
