Launched in 2015, NVMA Studio (formerly Night Vision Music Academy) is Edmonton’s only dedicated electronic music production and DJ school, as well as a boutique studio experience. Located on Jasper Avenue in the heart of Edmonton's downtown, the academy features weekly group classes, private lessons, workshops, and a community of professional and aspiring producers, DJ’s, and musicians. Our weekly music courses were developed to be everything a new artist needs to get a strong start and are taught by professionally trained and experienced instructors.

Our experienced studio team offers a variety of services for artists and creatives looking for recording, production, mixing, mastering and collaboration.

Located at 11231 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, you can find us in the basement, right on the West corner.

Jake Robertz

Head of Music Production:
Jake is a veteran music producer and DJ from Edmonton Canada. Over the last 10 years, he’s released music and remixes on multiple international labels including RAM Records, High Tea & many, many more. Jake is an alumni at some of Western Canada’s biggest festivals including Bass Coast and Wicked Woods. Jake and has created a name for himself with DJ sets composed of 100% original music, created in Ableton.

Jake has explored the techniques of producing a wide variety of genres and styles, and developed methods to help you find, create, or refine your specific musical vision. Jake has the practical experience and in-depth knowledge to give you a clear understanding of the production process at any level.

Alongside his experience in composition and mixing, Jake also offers Mastering services and vocal recording in NVMA’s recording studio.

Kelly Spriggs

Kelly Spriggs aka Triggs is a veteran DJ from Edmonton. Triggs is no stranger to the festival and club scenes in Alberta, with notable performances at Astral Harvest and venues such as 9910, Chvrch of John and Union Hall to name a few. Kelly has created Edmonton’s first custom built sound system, the Umbral Sound System, which you can find at Umbral events around Edmonton and popping up at festivals around Western Canada over the summer months.

You can find Kelly moonlighting as a Sound Technician at one of Edmonton’s most popular venues, 9910. His vast knowledge of DJing, technical DJ equipment requirements & set up as well as his expert knowledge of all modern DJ formats including CDJ’s, DJ Controllers, Traktor, Serato, Rekordbox, vinyl records & turntables will help you gain insight into how to become a successful DJ.

Kurtis Shultz

Kurtis Schultz is a producer, engineer and  multi-instrumentalist. Early in his youth he played violin and piano, achieving a grade 6 Royal Conservatory by age 13. He then went on to drums, playing in bands,  in and out of the school system, until graduation. He began recording and producing in 2002 and is well versed in Pro-tools, logic and Ableton. After Graduating in 2010 from the the Macewan Jazz Program (Drums) his life turned to freelance drumming, playing with dozens of bands in multiple genres. In recent years he has had the pleasure of producing a number of albums / E.P’s for notable artists including Landon Bushell, Jake Buckley, Dreamie Magracia, Brooklyn Blue and others. When he is not in the studio he is on the road and has toured extensively internationally, performing as a drummer in bands The Steadies and Verttigo. He is also a member of the DJ duo Better Living DJs. Kurtis’ passion for music and creativity have allowed him to explore a variety of mediums, extending to theatre and teaching. 

Matt Byrnell

Matt Byrnell is a producer, engineer, multi instrumentalist, and co-owner of NVMA. Originally from Victoria BC, Matt started out in 2003 making hip hop beats on MPC samplers. After moving to Edmonton in 2006 he got involved in the local music scene playing guitar and bass where he developed his love for different music genres such as jazz/rock/electronic and hip hop. Eventually Matt moved into production, become a graduate of the NVMA level 3 production course. Matt is primarily focused on hip hop with original production and tracking of his own loops/breaks in house at the NVMA studio.
