Have You Spent Months (Or Years) Dabbling In Music Production With Nothing To Show For It?

NVMA-august-7.jpg

You Can Avoid Wasting Your Time & Start Making Professional Sounding Tracks In A Matter Of Weeks With A New Approach…

If you’ve been working at music production for a while now, but are still failing to finish songs that you’re happy with — and others actually want to listen to — well, I’m going to share the best way to get unstuck.

You see, music production is complex. There is technical knowledge and a breadth of skills needed to be successful, making it an elusive art.

And what most people do (and what you may be doing) is build a Frankenstein of “expertise” by reading and watching random tutorials, trying those tips & tricks out, and ending up with a loop or a sound.

You feel some accomplishment for a moment, but then realize it’s not exactly how you want it. So you tweak. You find another tutorial that you think will help and try to apply what you learn but…

It still sounds wrong. So you start the whole process over again.

Hours later and you still don’t have anything really close to a song and you’re sick of what you’ve made.

Over the weeks, months (perhaps years…yikes), you spend your time dabbling with DAWs, starting songs, then abandoning them, accumulating plugins, watching hours of YouTube videos, but never really consolidating that knowledge into finished tracks that sound good — that you’re proud to put out into the world…

Hours wasted. Feeling defeated with the lack of progress.

You may even be starting to believe music production isn’t for you.

If this pattern sounds familiar, don’t worry, it’s not your fault.

You can escape tutorial hell & start producing music that gets attention and connects with listeners

The problem is your approach to learning music production.

But with the right system, you can start churning out tracks you and others love in a matter of weeks, instead of screwing around for months to years.

Let me explain…

You see, this Frankenstein approach to learning leaves gaps in your knowledge. You don’t have the full picture. And this stunts your progress.

The thing is, you need to understand the main principles, the tools, and music production fundamentals before adding “tips & tricks” to your learning regiment.

Without a foundation, you’ll waste time fiddling around with different DAWs, plugins, effects, and techniques until you get tired, frustrated, or bored and eventually give up.

So what is the best (and fastest) way to actually get the ability to create professional sounding music consistently?

How do you get big, wide leads, pads with presence, and in-your-face bass?

How do you get the sound you’re after?

The missing link: proper guidance from a mentor & a community to support you.

See, with a proper mentorship, not only do you get the assimilation of years of knowledge, but you get feedback and accountability.

These 3 ingredients will get you making professional sounding music super quick

A mentor that has been where you have been and has been mentored in order to reach new heights in his production value.

He knows what are the essential things you should know, how they should be learned, and in what order to learn them.

On top of that, he can provide feedback. Feedback is essential to you learning quickly.

Get All The Answers To Your Producing Questions

Have you ever wondered while producing:

  • Did I do that correctly?

  • What else does this need?

  • How can I make this sound more like this particular song?

  • In what order should I be doing this?

  • What should I look for in a synth and which one should I get next?

  • How do I create a sample from this video?

  • How can I make this drop hit harder?

Well, with a mentor, you can literally ask any question that comes to mind about your music and get an INSTANT answer.

How fast do you think you’d progress if you got all your questions answered right when you have them?

How fast would you progress if you had a professional producer listen to what you were producing and give you notes on how to improve every time you met?

That’s how you speed up your learning and get good in a matter of months to weeks, rather than years.

But There’s A 3rd Piece To The Puzzle To Make It All Come Together

See you need to be consistently working on your skills to get the quality you want.

The hack that gets you to consistently work on your craft?

Accountability.

Not having this may doom you to be stuck in a “tutorial hell”.

You need someone who will be checking in with you regularly to make sure you’ve worked on your tracks. That you’ve practiced your craft. That you’re improving. Moving forward.

You only get this with a mentor & by being connected to a community that shares your goal of making great music.

When you get the help of a mentor & a community, you get:

Knowledge & Skills needed to succeed downloaded straight to your brain.

Feedback to get your questions answered and your music improving rapidly.

Accountability so that you’re working on tracks and improving consistently.

No more dabbling in music, getting nowhere, and only having anemic beats to show for it.

No more constant tweaking with zero direction.

No more hard drive filling up with unfinished loops.

Imagine…

In A Matter Of Weeks You Can Have The Foundational Knowledge And Skills To Make Professional Sounding Music

Music that you feel proud to put out into the world. Music that gets heads turning. Music you and others LOVE.

With personalized instruction, you can easily overcome your most difficult obstacles when it comes to music and cut your learning time in half — or more.

Problem is…

How do you get personalized instruction like this without it getting expensive?

Music certificates and degrees can range from $7,218 to $27,352 or more (not including books or other institutional fees).

That’s pretty steep for most people who just want to get good at making music.

So what about online courses?

Those can be a cheaper option, but they lack the personalization you get from in-person mentorship.

Also, feedback from the instructor is likely to be scarce or non-existent (or left to the other students in a forum), and accountability is lacking — the weight is left on your shoulders alone to be consistent with your practice.

Well, there is a better option that will get you to your goals without breaking the bank…

Hey, My Name’s Jake

I’m a veteran music producer and DJ from Edmonton.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve released music and remixes on multiple international labels including RAM Records, High Tea, Muti Music, Aufect, Seclusiasis, Simplify, Ad Noiseam, Really Good, Fort Knox, Top Billin, Discobelle, High Chai, Adapted, Made in Glitch, Future Roots, and 9G records.

With my previous project Knight Riderz, I was headlining shows and festivals across North America including The Village at Shambhala in 2011, The Living Dead Tour with Zeds Dead in 2012, The Bounce Festival, and Astral Harvest.

I’ve been an active member of the Edmonton electronic music scene since 2008, currently working with local promoters Future Roots throwing parties and regularly opening for international artists.

For over a decade, I’ve explored the techniques of producing a wide variety of genres and styles, and developed methods to help you find, create, or refine your specific musical vision.

I have the practical experience and in-depth knowledge to give you a clear understanding of the production process at any level.

If you want to learn music production then it makes sense to learn from someone who plays festivals regularly and has consistent releases on successful labels...there is no one else in Edmonton that I would rather have teaching me dance music production.

That’s why I joined up with the Night Vision Music Academy to deliver an experience designed for artists wanting to get good, fast.

Think, your dream to make amazing music that you and others will love could be your reality in less than a year!

And I can help you make it possible with an in-person (& via livestream) class I designed which will actually get you results. A course I wish I had when I was first starting out...

Night Vision Music Academy’s

Introduction to Production

These classes were designed to help dabbling or wannabe producers with overcoming information overload and lack of direction to help them get unstuck and become competent, confident producers fast.

And by fast, I mean it. Instead of dabbling for over a year, trying to piece everything together, you could be making music you’re proud of in weeks.

I spent about 3 or 4 months prior taking a lot of time watching videos online to learn to use Ableton. I learned a fraction of what I learned in the 2 month level 1 course. To anyone who wants to learn how to produce music and wants to do it FAST! I would 100% recommend taking the course.
— Cole H.

  • the hotkey cheat sheet that will keep you blazing through your compositions

Level 2: Advanced Techniques

In this level, we turn it up a notch. You’ll get an introduction to synthesis, mixdown fundamentals, EQ, compression, sampling & remixing — all the basic principles you'll need to get a song to sound the way you want.

You’ll learn about:

  • mastering THE most important tool to finally eliminate muddiness and other imperfections from your tracks

  • when exactly to boost or remove frequencies in a sound

  • the strengths & weaknesses of different EQs, and when to use certain ones to make your mixdown clean

  • what an oscillator, filter, LFO, envelope, modulation, ADSR are and how to use them to shape your synth sounds to craft the sounds you hear in other songs you like or the ones you have in your own head

  • what's the difference between compression & limiting and exactly what to use each for

  • the 2 ways to use compression and how to use them properly so you don't have a squashed or weak mix

  • the dangers of too much compression and how to avoid a relentless wall of sound that tires people’s ears out and takes the energy out of your mix

  • how to harness wavetable synthesis so you can make more complex sounds with this amazing tool

  • why frequency masking occurs and how to avoid two sounds drowning each other out

  • how to properly set up audio and MIDI tracks

  • why Resample is the secret weapon of sound designers and how to quickly record MIDI instruments or effects to audio so you can warp, reverse, chop or edit the sound

  • one of the oldest artist practices in the book and how you can use this technique to your advantage

  • a handy technique for getting a quick starting point when trying to recreate a melody, groove, or drum pattern from a certain song

  • why you need to use different compression setting for individual tracks vs. groups and what kind of compression you'll need for each

  • the best way to add colour and warmth to your sound and the tools to do so

  • the test you always need to do when mixing and how it helps you focus on making the right changes, rather than aimlessly turning knobs in an attempt to make it sound "better"

Level 3: Flawless Finish

This level will take your track to chef’s kiss. In it, you’ll learn FM synthesis, vocal processing, bass control, how to perfect your mixdowns, and get an introduction to mastering.

You’ll discover:

  • advanced techniques to create complex sounds and more movement in your synths

  • how to add a ton of perceived loudness to a sound without having a large increase of peak volume or destroying dynamics

  • the tool that lets you almost "undo" previous compression and create more dynamic range in a sound

  • how to heavily compress or distort particular frequencies of a sound while leaving other frequencies clean

  • how to eliminate background noise from vocal or live recordings, tighten up sounds or loops, and soften harsh transients, clicks, pops, or spikes in volume

  • the tool that will add "punch" to a sound that lacks impact

  • how to control unpleasant resonant spikes without having to mess with an EQ to cut frequencies

  • how to properly set up and incorporate different hardware into Ableton

  • what to look for when purchasing hardware

  • key pieces of gear to have for recording

  • the exact things you must do before every recording to avoid headaches down the road

  • how to get the best takes when working with a singer & how to make the most of your time so they don't have to come back and re-record anything later

  • layering, panning, and modulation techniques to create rich, wide vocals

  • advanced techniques to create interesting low end movement in your music

  • how to help your bass cut through on small speakers

  • how to master the trickiest and most important relationship in your mix (if you don’t get this right, you’re doomed to be an amateur forever)

  • why choosing the right key can be the 'key' to your success with making strong sub content

  • why it's pretty much impossible to get an accurate, audible representation of the amount of sub bass in anything other than a perfectly acoustically treated room and what to do to make sure your sub levels are correct, even when working from your headphones

  • advanced techniques to create stereo width other than panning or reverb

  • the dangers of stereo width that can cause elements to sound hollow or completely disappear in a mix and how to avoid each

  • why sometimes trying to get a single synth patch to create a desired sound just isn't possible and what to do instead to add width, character, and harmony

  • the subtle art of picking samples to layer and the creative ways to layer them

  • ways to abuse warp modes, chopping, reversing, and re-pitching while resampling for more creative sound design

  • the 4 things you'll need make sure are right when prepping your final song to send to a mastering engineer

  • a checklist of things to look for and to do when mastering (and how to do them without damaging the integrity of the song)

  • a simple trick to eek out some extra loudness in a master

  • how to use meters so you can be certain about your mastering decisions

  • self releasing vs. labels and the advantages & disadvantages of both

  • online loudness & where the sweet spot is (how loud is loud enough and how loud is too loud?)

  • how to automatically receive royalties for when your music is played publicly on a radio show, dj mix, or even live

  • grant opportunities that will put money in your pocket to make music!
