The Tune Up is a series of workshops aimed at helping electronic music producers learn the fundamentals of music theory and improve their song and melody writing. A knowledge of music theory is one of the most important tools a producer can use to create interesting, innovative dance music. This monthly workshop, taught by Calvin Simonson, will start on Sunday, March 5th with the topic:

Notes, Scales and Harmony: Making sense of the building blocks of music and understanding how they can be used to make music easier and better.

Your Instructor: Calvin Simonson

Having worked for many of Edmonton's greatest venues (The Citadel Theatre, Jubilations Dinner Theatre and The Francis Winspear Centre for Music) as well as for The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Calvin Simonson’s life has, for the past half-decade, existed in tandem with the Albertan music scene. A lifelong student of Classical Music and music theory, he turned his sights to the future armed with a computer and over a dozen synthesizers 5 years ago and now self-releases his own Electronic compositions under the alias August Auseil. Recently, he has garnered support from many respectable artists including Uallas, Aerospherix, DJ Avvry and Popular Youtube artist Azrienoch and, In 2016, his track “Vishnu” reached #1 on the Spinnin' Records Talent Pool in 3 days.
